“I use this as a base regularly for my hiking weekends and its just perfect. The rooms are beautifully presented, the food is great and I love the little residents only area.”

“The room was clean and the breakfast was good The only issue was the stairs to the room as our room was on the 3 floors there were a lot of stairs to climb and we both OAP which was very tiring. On the hold it was a good experience but we would not stay again due to the stairs.”

Dining room was a little fusty and in need of a some TLC and the evening meal was a bit overpriced for what it was but still an overall charming stay in this gorgeous location. ”

“We booked Holbeck Ghyll as a special treat after two days of walking in the Lake District and were genuinely looking forward to it. The reality was a serious disappointment. The room was in a poor state of repair: mould on the bathroom ceiling, rusted window frames, failing grout and sealant with black mould in the tile joints, and paint peeling throughout the bathroom. These are not superficial issues — they represent basic maintenance failures that should not exist in any hotel, let alone one……

“We stayed in the Lodge 1, it was aesthetically really beautiful! The only downside is you can hear EVERYTHING from next door, which wasn’t too bad for us because it was just TV but I can imagine if you had a rowdy next door neighbour in the lodge you’d be extremely disappointed. The Spa was beautiful and intimate it is a great escape for a couple… However, two elements of the shower didn’t work, the hydropool could use a bit of maintenance and a little bit of atmospheric music would be great……
